“This Award ceremony is a token of appreciation for the 2017/2018 year of dedication to the Dover Elks Lodge #184 from me to the members of this lodge,” stated ER Vic Ingram.

He expressed his gratitude to House Committee members Debbie Guilmett, Vicki Ingram, Karen Haney, Ken Brown and Kevin Thompkins who were tasked with the operations of the lounge and the many lodge functions throughout the year. He also thanked the Officers of the lodge for their excellent job of overseeing all aspects of the lodge operations and commended them on their many successes.

For their outstanding contributions and dedication to the Lodge over the past year, Jeff Slattery received the Outstanding Citizenship award, and Brian Dailey was presented with the Officer of the Year award. Grand Exalted Ruler Special citation awards were presented to Vicki Ingram and Bob Edwards.

Edwards cooked the Friday night dinners with assistance from his wife, Terry, who received an Exalted Ruler Commendation for volunteering with the prepping and serving the dinners. He was recognized for his volunteerism and willingness to cook Friday night dinners and other events whenever asked.

Garry and Barbara Allard were also recognized with Exalted Ruler Commendations for their dedication to the Lodge. Garry Allard resurrected and organized the Sunday Pool League, while Barbara Allard was recognized for her years as editor of the monthly newsletter and public relations chairperson.

“The Elk of the Year Award,” the most prestigious award given to a member, was presented to Sandie York for all of her “behind the scenes” work on many projects, stepping up to chair the Beacon and Anniversary Grant project, as well as managing the Friday night dinners and bi-monthly MEATOs.

Following the award ceremony, Outgoing Exalter Ruler Ingram turned the night over to Grand Exalted Ruler Barbara Allard, HLM and the Grand Lodge Suite of Officers — Past Exalted Rulers Ronald Perrault, Garry Allard, Ken Kirby, Bill Kincaid, Bob Libby, Gary Millward, and Kevin Manley — for the purpose of installing the officers for the ensuing year. After the oath was administered by Grand Exalted Ruler Allard, the officers were escorted to their stations where they were invested with the jewel of their office by members of the Grand Suite.

Stone Slattery, Gavin Devaney and Chris Plante, members of Boy Scout Troop #173, presented colors for the ceremony, placing the state, Elk, and American flags at their place of honor beside the altar. This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem.

Guest speaker was Mike Vachon who told those assembled, “I first met Mark about 40 years ago. Back then, I was fresh out of high school, still living at home with my Mom and two younger sisters – who I felt a bit protective of. So, when my youngest sister Deb brought home a new boyfriend – my personal radar sort of kicked in. With a nickname like ‘Itchy’, one can’t be too careful.” He continued, “Almost 10 years ago, Mark decided to follow in his Dad’s footsteps and joined the Elks. I’ve watched his commitment and dedication grow as he rose through the ranks, filling one position after another. It’s obvious he truly cares about this organization and what it represents. I am exceptionally proud of my brother and I’m ready to support him in this new role. I hope you all will do the same. Congratulations, Mark!”

Newly installed Exalted Ruler Guilmett stated, “I would like to start by saying thank you to all of those who had some part in my years as an Elk, and a thank you to my dad who was a life member here in this Lodge and to my brother who was a life member in the Laconia Lodge.” Guilmett continued, “I look forward to serving to the best of my ability with the fine members of the Dover Lodge. There may be some hiccups along the way, but I believe that through communication and working as a team, we can get through anything. All I ask for in return is that we all work together to make the Dover Elks a great place where we meet friends and new acquaintances.

Guilmett thanked his wife, Debbie, who has been and will continue to be at his side and he presented her with a bouquet of flowers. She was also presented with Dover Elks First Lady tiara!

Lodge Esquire Ken Brown, PER, HLM, presented Ingram, now a Past Exalted Ruler, with his PER jewels and ring, thanking him for his dedication to the Lodge over the past year.

Grand Exalted Ruler Allard, HLM also thanked Vic Ingram for serving as exalted ruler and providing leadership to the lodge. “Although I cannot state that you are a member of the PER Association, I can say you are now a past exalter ruler,” stated Allard as she presented him with a PER embroidered shirt.”

Vic Ingram, PER, presented flowers to his wife, Vicki, and thanked her for being by his side and helping him throughout the year. “I congratulate you Mark on being elected to the position of Exalted Ruler of Dover Lodge #184,” said Ingram. “I know you will have a great year.”

Members and guests enjoyed a delicious roast pork dinner prepared by lodge manager Peter Marcoux who was assisted by member Greg Thayer. Following dinner there was dancing with music provided by DJs Bob & Jen.
