Dr. Wayne C. McCormick, MD, MPH, FACP, is a distinguished Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine, where he holds the William Colson Endowed Chair in Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine. As Division Head of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine, he has provided exceptional leadership in advancing clinical care, education, and research in aging and palliative medicine. A graduate of Washington University Medical School and the University of Washington School of Public Health, Dr. McCormick completed his medical training at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, where he served as Chief Medical Resident before joining the University of Washington faculty in 1990. Over his decades-long career, he has made significant contributions to the fields of geriatrics, hospice, and palliative medicine, serving as Program Director of the Palliative Medicine Fellowship and Director of Palliative Care Services at Harborview Medical Center. He has been recognized with numerous honors, including multiple “Top Doctor” awards from Seattle Magazine and the Harborview Cares Service Excellence Award. A Fellow of the American College of Physicians and past president of both the American Academy of Home Care Physicians and the American Geriatrics Society, Dr. McCormick has played a vital role in shaping national standards for elder care and end-of-life practice. His editorial work for leading journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine and Journal of the American Geriatrics Society underscores his scholarly influence. Deeply committed to mentorship, he has guided generations of medical students, residents, and fellows. Through his extensive leadership, teaching, and clinical service, Dr. McCormick has made enduring contributions to improving the quality of life for older adults and advancing excellence in geriatric and palliative medicine.
