Prof. Carlos Antunes | Planetary Sciences | Best Researcher Award
Prof. Carlos Antunes, Universidade de Lisboa, Faculdade de CIências, Instituto DOm Luiz, Portugal
Professor Carlos Antunes is a distinguished researcher and academic from the Faculty of Science at the University of Lisbon, affiliated with the Instituto Dom Luiz (IDL), Portugal. His academic qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Geographical Engineering (1990) and a Master’s in Geodesy (1997) from the University of Lisbon, followed by a PhD in Physical Geodesy from Graz University of Technology, Austria (2004).
Professional Profiles:
Professional Experience:
1990-1992: Lecturer at Pedro Nunes High School
1993 onwards: Assistant Professor at the University of Lisbon, Faculty of Science
2004 onwards: Auxiliary Professor at the same institution
2007 onwards: Researcher at Instituto Dom Luiz (IDL)
1993-2007: Member of the LATTEX Research Unit
2000-2003: Expert Auditor and Consultant for ISO 9000 Quality Management Systems certification
Research Interests:
Professor Antunes specializes in Geometrical and Physical Geodesy and Land Surveying, with a particular focus on:
Sea level rise, storm surge, tide modelling, and coastal risk assessment along the Atlantic coast of mainland Portugal
Tidal inlets dynamics, sedimentary beach monitoring via GPS RTK, and mean sea level variation
He employs numerical and analytical modelling, as well as time series analysis to study natural and bio-physical processes.
Expertise:
His expertise has been pivotal in providing consultancy and guidance for various environmental and geophysical projects, including the creation of flood risk maps and the evaluation of seismic hazards. He continues to influence climate change adaptation strategies through his leadership in several high-impact research and consultancy projects.
