Gian Paolo Cimellaro holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY), USA, and the University of Pavia, Italy, both awarded in February 2008. His dissertation at SUNY focused on “Improving seismic resilience of structural systems through integrated design of structures,” under the guidance of Prof. A.M. Reinhorn. At the University of Pavia, his research centered on “Passive Control of Industrial Structures for Natural Hazard Mitigation: Analytical Studies and Applications,” advised by Prof. E. Calligarich from the Department of Physics. He also earned a Master’s degree in Earthquake Engineering from SUNY in February 2005, where his thesis explored the “Multidimensional Fragility of structures: Formulation and evaluation,” under the supervision of Prof. A.M. Reinhorn. Furthermore, he obtained a Master’s in Information System, Integration and Auditing (MBA – IT Governance) from the University of Turin, Italy, in February 2012, with a thesis on “Constitution of a s.r.l. company: laws and regulations with particular attention to a spin-off company,” advised by Prof. A. Devalle from the School of Management. He also served as a Visiting Professor at the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering at the University at Buffalo (SUNY), The State University of New York, USA, from January 2009 to June 2009.
