Education

Rita holds a Master’s Degree in Medical Physics from the University of Porto’s Faculty of Sciences, where she achieved an average course grade. Her dissertation, “Personalized Voxel-Based Dosimetry in Ho-166 Hepatic Radioembolization: A Dose Uncertainty Study,” was conducted at Hospital de Santo António under Professor Dr. João Santos’ supervision and received a final grade. She also completed a Degree in Physics from the same university with a final course grade.

Experience

Rita has worked as a Medical Physicist at Porto São João University Hospital Center since September. Prior to this, she completed an internship in the Nuclear Medicine Department at Hospital de Santo António, where she gained practical experience with software tools like HERMES and Q-Suite. She also participated in dosimetric studies of holmium-166 and lutetium-177 therapeutic treatments. Rita has been tutoring physics and mathematics at Espaço D study center.

Honors and Awards

European Congress of Medical Physics at the 5th European Congress in Munich, Germany, Rita presented two poster presentations. The topics included the influence of OSEM reconstruction parameters on activity quantification in SPECT/CT imaging and dosimetric evaluation of holmium-166 hepatic radioembolization. EANM Congress She showcased her expertise at the EANM Congress in Hamburg, Germany, with a poster and an e-poster. Her presentations focused on the impact of reconstruction algorithms on digital PET/CT imaging and post-therapeutic dosimetric evaluation of holmium-166 hepatic radioembolization. AOCMP-SEACOMP Congress: Although not directly related to her award, Rita’s work aligns with the themes discussed at the  Asia-Oceania Congress of Medical Physics (AOCMP) and Southeast Asia Congress of Medical Physics (SEACOMP). The congress, held in Penang, Malaysia, emphasized revolutionizing patient care through medical physics.

Research Focus

Rita’s research focuses on Medical Physics, particularly in nuclear medicine. She investigates uncertainties in tumor dose determination during treatment with holmium microspheres and explores the impact of reconstruction algorithms on digital PET/CT imaging. Her research aims to optimize existing techniques and develop new treatments and processes in Medical Physics.
