During this period, her research centered on the modulation of inflammation in the bronchial epithelium using 3D culture techniques, involving the culture of epithelial cells and fibroblasts, as well as enzymatic stimulation and bronchial remodeling. Prior to her postdoctoral work, Dr. Fakhfakh earned her PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Laval University, Quebec, Canada, graduating in June 2011. Her doctoral thesis titled “Blocking Myostatin Signaling and Other Ligands of the TGF-β Superfamily Increases the Success of Myoblast Transplantation in Dystrophic Mice” was conducted under the guidance of Professor Jacques P. Tremblay. Her research specialties included cell culture, muscle transplantation, genetic modification of cells, modulation of cell signaling, inflammation studies, cell regeneration, transcription factors, and myogenesis. Dr. Fakhfakh began her academic journey with a Master’s degree in Engineering Biology from the National Engineering School, Sfax, Tunisia, which she completed in July 2006. Her Master’s thesis focused on the prevalence of autoantibodies and the study of polymorphism of the Foxp3 gene in type 1 diabetes, supervised by Dr. Hatem Masmoudi, a professor at the Faculty of Medicine of Sfax. Her specialties included antibody determination, genotyping, ELISA techniques, and genetic associations. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science from the Upper Biotechnology Institute, Monastir, Tunisia, in July 2004. Dr. Raouia Fakhfakh has a distinguished career in immunology and infectious disease research spanning multiple countries and institutions. Since 2023, she has served as a Researcher at the Infectious Disease Research Center of the Quebec University Hospital Research Center in Canada. In this role, she leads research projects with a focus on Leishmaniasis, assuming responsibilities as project manager. From 2013 to 2022, Dr. Fakhfakh held the position of Professor and University Researcher in Immunology at the Research Laboratory of Autoimmunity, Cancer, and Immunogenetics at Habib Bourguiba University Hospital Center in Sfax, Tunisia.
